Download Microsoft Teams Desktop and Mobile Apps (FREE)

Microsoft Teams is a collaborative office tool, oriented towards companies and schools, which allows you to work in a team. It is included in the Microsoft 365 (Office) suite.

The application provides sharing and editing of files within the team and allows projects to be managed even when on the go. It offers a messaging service (written, audio and video) to facilitate group conversations and private dialogues.

The app itself is free to download, but requires a Microsoft 365 subscription (Office Business license) or a corporate or school subscription to Microsoft Teams to function.

Why use Microsoft Teams?

Microsoft Teams provides its users with a number of tools to make teamwork management easier. You can create as many users as necessary for your collaborators (the limit is 500,000).

Microsoft Teams provides an instant messaging (or chat) tool that allows everyone to communicate with other users as a duo or in a group (internet connection required). It is a professional version of Microsoft messaging called Skype. It is possible to mention participants or a team in the chats in order to draw their attention to a specific point. A customizable notification system is integrated and allows you to focus on the important elements. In addition, the user can save important conversations for archiving. A search tool is also present allowing you to easily find a specific moment in a conversation.

But Microsoft Teams is also the ability to make audio and video calls (in HD) and thus organize meetings and meetings. So wherever your employees are, they can participate in business meetings. Of course, screen sharing is supported. In order to resolve visual concerns due to where users are located, the app is able to create background blur. You can even invite third parties to participate in meetings, just by providing them with a specific link.

Microsoft Teams allows 9 people (cameras) to be displayed on the screen at the same time. This makes it possible to have more people visually, the application also sorts the participants to display in priority those who have activated their webcam. In addition, the tool adapts to the flow of each participant to allow better audio and video rendering.

In the practical tools, note the one that allows you to ask for the floor by "raising your hand". Ideal for not cutting the floor and avoiding overlapping conversations, preventing other participants from understanding anything.

Don't want to show the ugly wall behind you because it's unprofessional? No problem ! A background change tool exists, it cuts you out and inserts you on the background of your choice. Only on PC. For iOS a background blur option exists.

Meeting planners can decide to end the session for everyone at the same time. This is to prevent people from staying in the room after other people have left.

As for the administrators, they have access to a meeting dashboard. This will allow them to access a whole series of statistics on the meetings that have taken place (volume, users, platforms, etc.). You also have at your disposal means of control and parameters to organize the management of your customers.

Microsoft Teams works closely with Microsoft 365, the office suite formerly known as Microsoft Office. So you can work in collaboration on the tools of the suite such as Word, PowerPoint, or Excel. These three applications are also available in mobile form and as an online service, which makes them accessible from anywhere. The link with OneDrive also allows easy file sharing between colleagues.

Microsoft Teams, more than 250 applications and services are supported for integration: group all your applications into one to make the work of your teams easier. Microsoft Teams is easily accessible via any PC (online service) or mobile devices (apps for smartphones and tablets).
Finally, note that Microsoft Teams is fully secure and encrypted.

What's new in the latest version of Microsoft Teams?

You can access our special folders for Microsoft Teams updates:

Update September 2020: Telecommuting: Microsoft will offer “virtual trips” to Teams users.
November 2020 Update: Microsoft Teams: Up to 1,000 attendees per virtual meeting.
In December 2020 Teams returns with a lot of novelty. First of all, the iOS application becomes compatible with Apple's CarPlay (the equivalent of Android Auto). But that's not all, the application has completely revised its call interface. In fact, you can now see your contacts, your voicemail messages, and your call history, all from a single screen.

What OS is Microsoft Teams compatible with?

In order to allow all your collaborators to use it, Microsoft Teams is cross-platform.

On a PC you can download the application for Linux (in RPM or DEB), but also, of course, for Windows for 32-bit and 64-bit systems, and for Mac (macOS X).
But that's not all, because collaborating with Microsoft Teams also means being able to do it from anywhere, the service is available in mobile applications.

For Android you will need version 4.4 or higher.

For users of the iOS system, it will be from version 10.0 for iPhone (from 5S), iPad Air, iPad mini, iPad and iPod Touch.

What are the best alternatives to Microsoft Teams?

Zoom is a communication service, it allows you to create videoconferencing rooms that can accommodate a large number of people. It allows screen sharing and offers room security by adding a participant queue. There is a free consumer plan and a specialized paid plan for professionals who need more functionality.

Google Meet allows, like Zoom, to create virtual meeting rooms. A free offer exists which limits the size of the room to 100 people. The paid plan is included in Google's G-Suite business plans.

Atolia, is a 100% French solution, with hosting of your files in France, which allows better consideration of the GDPR. In addition to the communication part (chat, audio and video messaging) it also offers complete project management (table, Gantt, Agenda, file sharing, etc.). This is a paid service (several offers depending on your needs). In addition to the software to install (Windows, Mac, Android and iOS), Atolia offers an online service that makes it compatible with Linux.

In the same vein as Atolia (all included) there is also HeySpace, there too you will find chat type messaging (but without audio or video calls) and full project management (without Gantt chart). It has the advantage of offering a free version for small organizations. Available for Windows, Linux, mac, iOS and Android.
